The Banjo Pilot is my 2018 novel.

Icy Strait, the Alaskan Adventures of the Banjo Pilot is the sequel to The Banjo Pilot. It is completely different than “The Banjo Pilot.”

America’s Music: Bluegrass, A History of Bluegrass Music in the Words of Its Pioneers has been out of print for several years

And many thanks to Bela Fleck for allowing his “Bitter Gap” for this website. You can find it on his “Natural Bridge” LP.

"Bitter Gap" by Bela Fleck. Thanks Bela.

Friends,

What is available at this website is free for your use, but it is only a small part of America’s Music: Bluegrass. There are many more chapters available for you if you’d care to subscribe here to access the entire book. Remember that the book has many more chapters which more fully explain how the pioneers of bluegrass music created this music. You can access chapters on these pioneers as well as its fiddlers, banjoists and other musicians, and you can read how the recording industry is involved (in the old days).

For you who are new to America’s Music: Bluegrass, A History of Bluegrass in the Words of Its Pioneers, it is a 1997 publication and concentrates on what our pioneers told us about this music. The book is not a up-to-date presentation of this music or its artists. It is meant to help a person understand what bluegrass music is, how it came about, how difficult these pioneers had it back in the formative days of this music. These stories are in their own words, with no agenda from the author of this book. This concept is very important to the pioneers for they wanted me to tell their stories, not distorted by the editing of a creative writer. Many of the pioneers told me that they appreciate this concept. You can see their comments in the section of “What They Say About This Book.” It was self-published by Pine Valley Music.

And please note that I’ve added considerably more historical information about early bluegrass to the book site. And I’ve added “Personal Data and Vital Statistics” section which is hundreds people listing their births and deaths. This list is continually modified as necessary for accuracy.

And don’t miss the CAVEAT tab above. Please peruse this for further information of what is happening on this website.
